Education: B.A. in both Performance and Music Education from Portland State University. Performance: Currently play piano in a jazz quartet performing regularly. Many of our pieces are my own compositions and arrangements. Teaching Experience: I began teaching part-time right out of college. In 2015, I took on more private students, more performance opportunities and arranged jobs, achieving my goal to live the life I love where music is my entire career.
Notes: I very much enjoy teaching one-on-one piano lessons, there is such great joy in discovering what makes each student excited about music and helping them work toward their goals. I studied classical music in college, and have also pursued jazz studies so I can work with students who enjoy traditional piano repertoire, as well as those interested in other genres that are more about reading chords and improvising. I usually start younger students off with the basics using a Method Book such as "Faber Piano Adventures''. Then over time begin introducing various styles of music on a discovery mission to find what uniquely inspires them. I also have composing and arranging experience, and even some of my youngest students love learning how to make their own music.
For best progress I believe in a partnership where we can discuss topics such as; your goals and how to develop an age appropriate home practice routine. I care about each student, treat them with kindness and respect, have a nurturing personality, believe in encouraging creativity, and bringing out the best in others.
